The best Fall activities to do in Connecticut

Connecticut is a stand-out for seasonal “leaf peepers” looking to take in the gorgeous colors of Fall foliage. However, the state also has some of the best fall activities, including apple picking, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches. Here are the best Fall activities to do in Connecticut.

Corn Mazes

Corn mazes are a great Fall tradition for all ages. There are an impressive number of corn mazes in Connecticut with some amazingly creative themes.

This year, Castle Hill Farms in Newtown Connecticut has created an homage to essential workers and first responders with a seven acre corn maze that features a nurse/doctor silhouette, a heart with a heartbeat, a caduceus – a symbol of medicine.

The Farm in Woodbury, Connecticut is hosting an underwater-themed corn maze stretching across four acres.The maze includes various aquatic animals shaping the design of the corn maze with an Octopus at the center. 

Apple Picking

Did you know the very first apple pie recipe came from American Cookery, which was published in 1796 in Hartford, Connecticut? So it goes without saying that Connecticut is home to a number of great apple orchards. Two fan favorites in Fairfield County are Blue Jay Orchards in Bethel and Silverman’s Farm in Easton.

Moving further north, Lyman Farms in Middlefield is a stand out for a full day of fun, including apple picking and freshly made, award winning apple pie from their Apple Barrel store.

Pumpkin picking is a quintessential Fall activity in Connecticut. If you’re looking for a jack-o-lantern pumpkin to carve up for your front stoop, check out Harris Hill Farm in New Milford.

Angevine Farm in Warren offers unique varieties of pumpkin and gourds on their 196-acre farm. But the best part is the main pumpkin patch which sits atop a mountain overlooking the hills of northwest Connecticut. If you’re looking to go off the beaten path, then check out the fifth generation, family-owned Bunnell Farm in Litchfield County. The drive to get to the farm winds through Litchfield’s rolling hills and is guaranteed to put you into the Fall spirit. And, once you arrive, you are sure to enjoy the peaceful pumpkin patch and country air.
