Best Hidden Gem Pizza Joints in Connecticut

Over the summer pizza was named Connecticut’s official “state food” in a 131-to-9 vote. Who voted “nay” to this bill? I do not know, but shall they forever eat deep dish pizza. Now, since it’s official, let’s visit the best hidden gem pizza joints in Connecticut.

*I know it can be argued that Frank Pepe’s and Colony pizza are the best, but let me convince you otherwise.

Sinapi’s Pizza

Sinapi’s Pizza in Danbury is an ‘ole favorite of mine. I grew up with this pizza joint as the backdrop to my teenage years, so forgive me for getting nostalgic. However, if you’re looking for a solid slice, this is your spot.

Little City Pizza

Little City Pizza in Avon built its reputation on thin-crust pies — which is definitely a personal preference — but with their roasted tomato sauce, hand-cut vegetables, house made sausage and meatballs, and other fresh ingredients, you really have to call this one of the GOATs.

Beverly’s Pizza

Ever heard of Greek-style pizza? Well Beverly’s Pizza is it. It’s not thin crust, it’s more of a doughy texture that locals swear by. In fact a recent review says it best, “strange time warp kind of a place. some folks swear by it, some just swear.”

Angelina’s Pizza

Biggest slice in Connecticut? Done. Angelina’s Pizza in West Hartford is a hometown favorite not only because it’s the biggest slice this side of Mason Dixon (their website url is biggestpizzainct.com), it’s also delicious.

Modern Apizza

Now, not a hidden gem to those in the know, Modern Apizza has been spotlighted many times in articles and on Travel Channelā€™s ā€œMan v. Foodā€ and ā€œPizza Paradiseā€ programs. But its signature pie, the ā€œItalian bomb,” is not to be missed. It’s topped with bacon, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, onion, pepper and garlic on a mozzarella base and available with red or white sauce… yum.
