As I look back on this crazy year, I can confidently say it’s one for the books. The market was (and still remains) hot. The inventory was at an all time low. And the buyers, well, the buyers have begun changing the landscape of home sales with more unique requests than we’ve seen in the past. With all this in mind, here are three of the biggest home buying trends of 2021:
Defined spaces and private home office entries
Obviously work spaces are a premium in homes nowadays. But there has been a definite shift from the open concept floor plan that’s gripped home buyers’ hearts in the past, to more defined, usable spaces. Every part of a home is being used now, and some rooms are even being transformed into creative solutions that meet new needs. Closets, nooks, formal dining rooms, and spaces under stairways are all being turned into high-functioning and frequently used spaces.
On the same note, some buyers are looking for homes with office spaces that have private entries so that they can keep their business operations separate from their home life.
Natural Look
A second home buying trend that’s gripped 2021 is the “natural look”. There’s been a lot of natural design choices made over the past year. Many people, including contractors for new builds, are bringing the outdoors in. Atriums, natural woods, and even open-air, ethereal spaces have become a desirable aesthetic.
Additionally, interior decor has turned to more natural fibers. If you didn’t know the word “sisal” in the past, you most likely do now. Textures like rattans, leathers, and wools are abundant in design, making rooms more cozy and tranquil.
Outdoor cooking spaces
No surprise that outdoor spaces where friends can gather is a major home buying trend, especially as COVID has continued to linger. Everyone is looking for a house with a pool; however, in addition to that, there has been an increased desire for outdoor cooking spaces. Pizza ovens, outdoor bars, and state of the art grills are now a hot commodity.
Also, don’t forget about a large yard for newly adopted furry friends.
