Looking for the best beach neighborhoods in Westport? Then read on.
There are over 300 miles of coastline in Connecticut that hugs the shores of the Long Island Sound and Atlantic Ocean. However, only about 200 miles can be called the “gold coast”. The Gold Coast is also known as Lower Fairfield County, and includes towns like Greenwich, Darien, and Westport.
In a 2018 ranking of America’s best beach towns to live in, WalletHub placed Westport at number nine. The coastal Connecticut town ranked just below Kihei, Hawaii, and just above Key West, Florida.
Westport’s coastal vibe is one of the major draws for people moving to the area. Here are some of the best beach neighborhoods in Westport.
Saugatuck Shores
Saugatuck Shores is wedged between a lagoon and the Long Island Sound, which makes this neighborhood as close to the water as you can get. Because the area juts out into the water, many homes have been renovated or rebuilt to be FEMA compliant in the past decade.
Compo Hill
Compo Hill is a grid of three streets that run perpendicular to Compo Hill Avenue. The neighborhood is small, but there are still about 100 homes situated in this area. Each property is a fraction of an acre. In fact, you’ll probably find the majority of homes that sit on Compo Hill to have about 5500 square feet of land. However, the benefit of this neighborhood outweighs the tightly packed area and small property sizes. Not only are homeowners able to walk to the beach, but most can see the water from their decks. Also, because the neighborhood sits high up on a hill, the homes are out of the flood zone, making this area very desirable.
Compo Beach
Compo Beach is a high-demand neighborhood with even higher prices. Like Compo Hill, Compo Beach is a series of roads that make up a small grid. During the summer you can find families wandering back and forth between home and beach. While the winter months bring a quieter, more laid back vibe.
Because of the proximity to the Long Island Sound, many homes have been renovated or re-built with FEMA compliance in mind.
Beachside Avenue
Beachside Avenue is part of the Green’s Farms neighborhood of Westport. Those living on Beachside Ave. have easy access to a small, sleepy beach called Burying Hill Beach, which is a 2.39 acre park along the shore of Long Island Sound. Most homes in this area are their own private oases, with thousands of square feet and multiple acres of property.
